Bryant Named Head Coach at Union Commonwealth

BARBOURVILLE, Ky. – After a highly competitive national search conducted in partnership with a leading search firm, Union Commonwealth University has selected Boston Bryant to be the Bulldogs' new head football coach. A native of Williamsburg, Ky., Bryant has been a key part of Union's program and now steps into the lead role with the full confidence of university leadership. The hiring committee, which included faculty, staff, students, alumni, and trustees, was committed to finding the right leader to elevate the program's future.

Bryant was a standout defensive lineman at Wofford College, an NCAA DI program, from 2013-2016, serving as a two-year captain for the Terriers. He graduated from Wofford with a bachelor's degree in History with a minor in Government.
Following his collegiate playing career, Bryant began coaching at the University of the Cumberlands, where he spent six seasons (2017-2022) mentoring nine all-conference players and coaching an Associated Press NAIA All-American.
Bryant has spent the past two seasons as Union's defensive coordinator, where his leadership has transformed the Bulldogs' defense. During his tenure, Union's defense held opponents to three points or less on four occasions and produced three First-Team All-AAC selections and six Second-Team All-AAC selections.

I want to thank Dr. Washington and Clay Butler for this opportunity, as well as my family for their unwavering support throughout this process.," Bryant said. "Union football has the potential to compete at a higher level, and I'm committed to building a culture of success. I'm especially excited to elevate our offense with key coaching additions and a renewed focus on player development. The relationships we've established with our current and future Bulldogs will be essential as we take this program to the next level."
UCU's Interim Executive Director of Athletics, Clay Butler, emphasized the rigorous selection process that led to Bryant's hiring.

Bryant has been serving as interim head coach since January. During this time, he and the football staff have remained relentless on the recruiting trail, ensuring a strong future for the program. Additionally, the team has seen an impressive retention of 121 football players from fall to spring, a testament to the program's growing stability and player development. His official appointment comes at a crucial time, allowing him to take the helm as spring football begins and the Bulldogs set their sights on the 2025 season.
