Milligan Captures Women's Indoor Championship

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Milligan seemed to dominate the distance events in helping it to the 2023 Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) Women's Indoor Track & Field Championship on Friday.

The two-day event was held at the JDL Fast Track in Winston-Salem, N.C.

This is the Buffaloes' second indoor championship, having previously won it in 2020.

Milligan amassed 166 points to outpace second-place Montreat, which finished with 152. Brenau and Columbia tied for third with 116 points, and Tennessee Wesleyan rounded out the top five with 96 points.

Earning the individual awards were Ellen Mary Kearney of Milligan as Freshman of the Year, Trinyty Gregory of Columbia International as Newcomer of the Year, Caitlin Dominy of Milligan as Track Athlete of the Year, and Paige Manney of Tennessee Wesleyan as Field Athlete of the Year. The Milligan coaching staff was named the Staff of the Year.

Kearney won the 800, 1000, and mile - setting the meet records in the 800 and 1000, and helped the 4x400 relay team to a third-place finish.

Gregory placed fourth in the long jump, won the 60 and 200, and helped the 4x400 relay team to a fourth-place finish.

Dominy finished second in the 1000 and mile, won the 3000, and helped the 4x800 relay team to a third-place finish.

Manney won the high jump, long jump, triple jump, and 60 hurdles - setting meet records in the long jump, triple jump, and 60 hurdles. She also helped the 4x400 relay team to a second-place finish.

Four meet records were set on Friday. There were:

  • 800 - Kearney (Milligan), 2:17.57
  • 60 hurdles - Manney (Tennessee Wesleyan), 8.91
  • Long jump - Manney (Tennessee Wesleyan), 5.83 meters
  • 3000 race walk - Izabelle Trefts (Columbia), 14:20.30 (facility record as well)
