Week 2: AAC Women's Indoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week

WALESKA, Ga. - Jessica Gakeri of Montreat and Ellen Mary Kearney of Milligan are the Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) Women's Indoor Field and Track Athletes of the Week, the league announced Tuesday.

This is the second edition of the weekly honors for the 2022-23 season. The next set of awards will be announced on Jan. 30.

AAC Field Athlete of the Week

Jessica Gakeri - Montreat - Sophomore - Winston-Salem, N.C.

  • Set the school record and hit an NAIA 'A' standard in the triple jump at the Carolina Challenge with a leap of 11.60 meters.
  • Placed fourth in the triple jump, competing against NCAA Division I and NCAA Division II athletes.
  • Placed ninth in the long jump with a leap of 5.11 meters.
  • This is her first weekly honor this season.


AAC Track Athlete of the Week

Ellen Mary Kearney - Milligan - Freshman - Wirral, United Kingdom

  • Hit the NAIA 'A' Standard in the 1000, winning the event at the COROS Collegiate Challenge with a time of 2:58.94.
  • Time is the sixth-fastest in the NAIA.
  • This is her first weekly honor this season.
