Columbia Captures 2022 Indoor Track & Field Championship
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Columbia won the 2022 Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) Women's Indoor Track & Field championship on Friday.
This is the Koalas' second indoor title in a row and fourth overall in the five-year history of AAC Indoor Track & Field Championships.
Columbia won with 160 points with Brenau taking second with 132. Milligan (126), Montreat (95), and Tennessee Wesleyan (89) round out the top five. Columbia International is sixth with 87 points, Bryan seventh (28), Union eighth (23), Reinhardt ninth (18), and Kentucky Christian 10th (13).
Here are the individual award winners:
- Women's Freshman of the Year: Anicia Goss, Tennessee Wesleyan
- Women's Track Athlete of the Year: Avery DeWolf Burton, Milligan
- Women's Field Athlete of the Year: Paige Manney, Tennessee Wesleyan
- Women's Newcomer of Year: Elana Preston, Columbia
- Staff of the Year: Columbia College
A total of six meet records were set. They were:
- 1000 meter run – Burton (Milligan), 3:00.58;
- Distance medley relay – Milligan, 12:19.09;
- Pole vault – Ashleigh Harding (Columbia International), 3.35 meters;
- Long jump – Shatrice Dixon (Brenau), 5.51 meters ;
- Triple jump – Manney (Tennessee Wesleyan), 12.33 meters;
- 3000 meter race walk - Izabell Trefts (Columbia), 14:52.36.
Everyone that placed in the top three of an event earned All-AAC honors.
