TWU Advances to NAIA Semfinal Round
MOBILE, Ala. - The Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) made a strong showing at the NAIA Women's Tennis National Championship as Tennessee Wesleyan advanced to the semifinal round for the first time in program history.
Entering as the No. 13 seed, Tennessee Wesleyan swept past No. 20 seed William Woods (Mo.) 4-0. The Bulldogs followed that with back-to-back upsets. Tennessee Wesleyan first knocked off No. 4 LSU Alexandria (La.) 4-3 and followed that with another 4-3 win over No. 5 Ave Maria (Fla.) to advance to the final four.
The historic run came to an end there as top-seeded Keiser (Fla.) posted a 4-0 win over Tennessee Wesleyan.
Tennessee Wesleyan ended the year 15-3.
There was one other AAC team in the tournament. Union entered at the No. 14 seed, but it fell 4-2 to No. 19 Westcliff (Calif.) in the opening round.
Union concluded the season 16-2 overall.
