Union Captures 2023 Women's Tennis Tournament Championship
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. - It was a strong, constant performance from first serve to the final point as No. 2 seed Union won the 2023 Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) Women's Tennis Tournament championship on Saturday, defeating top-seeded Tennessee Wesleyan 4-0.
The tournament was held in Chattanooga, Tenn., at the Champions Club.
Union jumped out to a 1-0 lead as it took the doubles point, winning 6-3 at No. 1 and 6-4 at No. 3.
In singles play, an injury to Tennessee Wesleyan's No. 3 singles player resulted in a default to give Union a 2-0 lead. Still, Union took care of business as it scored wins at No. 2 and No. 6 singles.
With the victory, Union receives an automatic berth to the NAIA National Championship Tournament. Nationals is set for May 16-20 at the Mobile Tennis Center in Mobile, Ala.
