HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Despite a valiant effort, Tennessee Wesleyan fell 3-2 in the NAIA Women's Soccer Opening Round to Xavier (La.) on Thursday.

The opening round was played in Hattiesburg, Miss., and hosted by William Carey.

Xavier grabbed the early lead in the 25th minute, but Anna-Lena Strauss pulled Tennessee Wesleyan even in the 27th minute.

It was 1-1 at the half, and Xavier went up 2-1 in the 72nd minute. Strauss came through again as she set up Valerie Koopman in the 76th minute to make it 2-2.

Yet, Xavier countered quickly with a goal in the 79th minute to collect the 3-2 win.

Tennessee Wesleyan ends the season 16-3-1 overall.
