Truett McConnell Scores Women's Soccer Tournament Championship
CLEVELAND, Ga. - Truett McConnell completed a perfect conference season as it defeated second-seeded Reinhardt 1-0 to win the 2022 Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) Women's Soccer Tournament on Saturday.
The Lady Bears won the regular season with a 13-0 conference mark and then preceded to win the tournament by outscoring their three opponents 9-0.
Truett McConnell applied heavy offensive pressure throughout the match, firing a total of 10 shots on goal. The Lady Bears launched a total of 19 shots and had 11 corner kicks. Conversely, Reinhardt managed one shot on goal and four total shots and failed to get a corner all match.
Despite the heavy attack, Truett McConnell was not able to break through until the 62nd minute when Ella Weir scored off a corner kick from Jett Schutz.
The Lady Bears made that lead stand as Madison Freedom recorded her one save in the 72nd minute.
Eliska Dvorakova of Truett McConnell earned Tournament MVP honors. Joining her on the All-Tournament Team are Moriah League, Sydney League, and Lyndsey Darden of Truett McConnell; Kirsten Gray, Hailey Sturla, and Ella Higdon of Reinhardt; Kayla Arsenault and Jordan Smith of Tennessee Wesleyan; and Hayden Bunn and Isabel Aguilar of Montreat.
Truett McConnell already received an automatic berth to the NAIA National Championship Tournament as the regular-season champion. Therefore, Reinhardt receives the conference's second automatic berth as the tournament runner-up.
