ATHENS, Tenn.- A familiar face is returning to lead the women's lacrosse program at Tennessee Wesleyan. Lorna Schoemehl has been announced as the head coach of the team by Vice President and Director of Athletics Donny Mayfield.
"I am really excited to return to TWU as the women's lacrosse coach. I look forward to growing the program and what the future will bring," said Schoemehl.
Schoemehl graduated from Tennessee Wesleyan in 2022 with a Bachelor's degree in History after a playing career that saw her start 50 out of 53 games. Schoemehl, a defender/midfielder for the Lady Bulldogs, finished with 99 ground balls and 32 caused turnovers during her time on the field. After graduation, Schoemehl went on to obtain a Master's degree in Public History from the University of South Alabama.
"We are thrilled to welcome Coach Shoemhel back to Tennessee Wesleyan as the head coach of our women's lacrosse program," stated Mayfield. "The vision Coach Schoemehl showed during the interview process has us excited for the future of the program."
Schoemehl was named to the Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) First Team in 2022 and to the All-AAC Second Team in 2019 and 2021. Schoemhel also earned a spot on the AAC All-Academic Team in 2020, 2021, and 2022.
"We are excited to have Coach Schoemehl back on campus. Having an alum take over is exactly what our women's lacrosse program needs and we see great things coming for the Lady Bulldogs in the very near future," said Director of Lacrosse and head men's lacrosse coach Kevin Parker. "She has a passion for TWU and the lacrosse program that will help bring back the glory days of one of the NAIA's oldest programs."
Prior to her return to Tennessee Wesleyan, Schoemehl served as the head coach of the Mobile Machine Lacrosse Club in Mobile, Ala.
