WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. - The top seeds took care of business in the first round of the 2024 Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) Women's Lacrosse Tournament.
No. 4 seed Georgetown opened play with a 20-8 win over No. 5 seed Tennessee Wesleyan. Third-seeded Montreat then fended off No. 6 seed Truett McConnell in a tight 18-15 affair.
The tournament is being held on the campus of Cumberlands in Williamsburg, Ky.
Georgetown started the game off with a 10-goal first quarter on its way to the 12-goal win. Katerina Gilbert and Maddie Diaz each had six goals for the Tigers.
In the nightcap, Montreat and Truett McConnell went back and forth before Montreat scored five of the final eight goals of the match to seal the win. Madison Terrell had five goals and two assists for the Cavs with Kate Gauntlett adding four goals and five assists. Shelby Nail and Marlo McBrayer each had five goals for Truett.
Georgetown takes on No. 1 seed Reinhardt at 12 p.m. on Friday, while Montreat plays Cumberlands at 3 p.m.
