Reinhardt Captures the 2022 Women's Lacrosse Tournament Title
WALESKA, Ga. - A strong second quarter propelled No. 2 seed Reinhardt to the a 13-9 victory and the 2022 Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) Women's Lacrosse Tournament championship on Saturday.
The tournament was held at Reinhardt in Waleska, Ga.
The first quarter was back-and-forth as No. 1 seed SCAD Savannah lead 3-2 with 9:18 to go in the frame. But Reinhardt scored the final two goals of the quarter for a 4-3 lead. The Eagles outscored the Bees 4-0 in the second to open up an 8-3 halftime advantage.
Reinhardt took a 10-4 lead into the fourth. SCAD Savannah netted five fourth-quarter goals, but it was not enough as Reinhardt claimed the 13-9 victory and the tournament title.
Morgan McGhee led Reinhardt offensively with two goals and three assists as she was named the Tournament MVP.
Joining her on the All-Tournament Team are Jessie Landers, Jillian Mello, and Ashley Steele of Reinhardt; Clarke Haas, Tracy Richards, and Hannah Smith of SCAD Savannah; Kate Gauntlett and Dovie Yates of Montreat; and Kennedy Martin and Asiah Dewberry of St. Andrews.
By virtue of winning the tournament, Reinhardt receives an automatic berth to the NAIA National Championship Tournament, which is set for May 4-7 in Saginaw, Mich.
