SCAD Atlanta Wins AAC/Direct Qualifier Tournament

ACWORTH, Ga. - A strong second round was the shot in the arm SCAD Atlanta needed as it captured the 2024 Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) Women's Golf Tournament championship.

The two-day, three-round tournament was held at the Governor's Towne Club in Acworth, Ga.

SCAD Atlanta sat third following the first round as Milligan led at 300 with Truett McConnell second at 302. The Bees posted a 315 to sit 15 strokes back of the leaders.

However, SCAD Atlanta fired a 291 during the second round to take a 2-stroke lead over Truett McConnell while Milligan fell to third.

All during the final round, SCAD Atlanta and Truett McConnell dueled for the lead, but the Bees finished strong and won by 4 strokes.

SCAD Atlanta posted a three-round score of 46-over 910 with Truett McConnell finishing with a 914. Milligan (942) took third with Pikeville (965) and Tennessee Wesleyan (978) rounding out the top five. Making up the rest of the field were Brenau (1,001), Reinhardt (1,079), and Montreat (1,249).

Martha Sanchez of SCAD Atlanta earned medalist honors as she won with a 6-over 222, edging Audrey Grace Holder of Truett McConnell and Holly Lau of SCAD Atlanta by 1 stroke as they both finished at 7-over 223. Also making the All-Tournament Team were Nicoline Eide of Truett McConnell, Mariana Herrera of SCAD Atlanta, and Sylken November of Truett McConnell.

The All-AAC Team and awards were announced following the championships, and Lau is the Player of the Year and the Freshman of the Year. Andres Gotta of SCAD Atlanta is the Coach of the Year, while Truett McConnell won the regular-season championship.

Making the All-AAC First Team are Lau, November, Sanchez, Eide, and Holder. Making the All-AAC Second Team are Madison Panter of Truett McConnell, Renee Crooks of Pikeville, Bailey McGaha of Milligan, Carly Crooks of Pikeville, Mallory TeVrucht of Milligan, Cora Mount of Tennessee Wesleyan, and Ariel Zhu of SCAD Atlanta.

By winning the conference tournament, SCAD Atlanta receives an automatic berth to the NAIA National Championship Tournament, which is set for May 14-17 at TPC Deere Run in Silvis, Ill.
