TWU Scores Lone Upset of Quarterfinal Round
KINGSPORT, Tenn. - Seventh-seeded Tennessee Wesleyan provided the lone upset in the quarterfinal round of the 2025 WinWon Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) Women's Basketball Tournament on Thursday.
The tournament is being played at the MeadowView Marriott Convention Center & Conference Resort in Kingsport, Tenn.
No. 4 Pikeville and No. 1 Milligan took care of business in the first two games of the day as they both won comfortably. Tennessee Wesleyan, though, was in an offensive struggle with No. 2 Johnson as neither team could get the ball to fall in the basket. Tennessee Wesleyan led 18-16 at the half. Tennessee Wesleyan started to create some separation in the third but really turned things up in the fourth, where it outscored Johnson 23-14 en route to the 52-35 victory.
In the final women's game of the day, No. 3 Reinhardt turned up its defensive pressure to punch its ticket to the semifinal round with a 64-52 win over No. 6 Bryan.
Pikeville and Milligan will play in the first semifinal game on Friday at 2 p.m. ET, with Tennessee Wesleyan taking on Reinhardt at 4 p.m. ET.
