AAC Women's Basketball Awards Announced

WALESKA, Ga. - The Appalachian Athletic Conference announced the 2023-24 Women's Basketball All-AAC Team and Awards on Tuesday.

Samantha Russell of Bryan is the Player of the Year. Kaitlynn Hennessee of Bryan is the Defensive of the Year, Madison Brady of Union is the Newcomer of the Year, and Hannah Jones of Johnson is the Freshman of the Year. Tony Campbell of Reinhardt is the Coach of the Year.

The awards were voted on and selected by the women's basketball coaches of the AAC.

Russell led the lead in scoring at 21.0 points per game and averaged 7.4 rebounds per game. She also tallied 43 assists, 25 steals, and 19 blocks for Bryan.

Hennessee produced 15.0 points and 6.7 rebounds per game. Defensively, she amassed 81 steals and 49 blocks. Hennessee also dished out 193 assists for Bryan.

Brady is fifth in the AAC in field-goal percentage at 54.6 percent while averaging 16.3 points per game. She also is pulling down 7.9 rebounds per game and has 26 assists, 14 steals, and 15 blocks for Union.

Jones is currently ninth in the league in scoring at 17.4 points per game. She also averaged 7.3 rebounds per game and had 57 assists, 28 steals, and 30 blocks to her credit.

Campbell guided Reinhardt to a 20-2 conference record, earning the Eagles the No. 2 seed.

Twelve players earned a spot on the All-AAC First Team with 12 making the second team. There are 10 members of both the All-Freshmen and All-Defensive Teams. Dozens of players made the grade to earn a spot on the All-Academic Team, while 15 were named to the Champions of Character Team.
