Reinhardt, Tennessee Wesleyan Knocked Out of NAIA Opening Rounds

WALESKA, Ga. - The Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) contingent had a rough go of it in the NAIA Softball Opening Round as Reinhardt and Tennessee Wesleyan each went 0-2.

Reinhardt ended the season with a 42-10 overall record, while Tennessee Wesleyan finished this year 27-15.

HATTIESBURG BRACKET

Reinhardt dropped a pair of heart-breakers, losing by one in both games.

In its first game, Reinhardt fell behind 2-0 in the first to host William Carey (Miss.) as the Crusaders took advantage of a pair of errors to take the early lead. Jill Martinet homered in the second to pull the Eagles within one. In the fifth Emily Loveless doubled in a run to even the score at 2-all. However, William Carey scored in the sixth to take the game 3-2.

Reinhardt faced Indiana Southeast in an elimination game on Tuesday and was held to one hit in a 1-0 loss.

WILLIAMSBURG BRACKET

Tennessee Wesleyan got off to a rough start in its first game on Monday, falling behind St. Francis (Ill.) 2-0 after two innings. It remained a two-run contest until the seventh when St. Francis tacked on another run. Bailee Phillips gave Tennessee Wesleyan some hope in the bottom of the seventh as she led off the bottom of the seventh with a solo home run to left. But that was all the offense Tennessee Wesleyan could muster as it lost 3-1.

On Tuesday, Tennessee Wesleyan struck first as Courtney Sneed singled in Macy Chastain for a 1-0 lead in the first. However, Coastal Georgia put together a seven-run rally in the second in grabbing a 7-1 lead. Neither team could add to their tally as Tennessee Wesleyan dropped the six-run decision.
