TWU on Verge of Advancing to Softball World Series; Bryan Eliminated

ASHEVILLE, N.C. - Tennessee Wesleyan is one win away from advancing to the NAIA Softball World Series, while Bryan lost twice on Tuesday to end its season in the NAIA Softball National Championship Opening Round.

In the Bowling Green Bracket, Tennessee Wesleyan remains undefeated as it held off No. 1 seed Central Methodist (Mo.) in a 1-0 contest. Haley Hinshaw scored on a Malyssa Jeter single to put the Bulldogs up 1-0 in the second, and pitcher Cheyenne Strong took care of the rest. She struck out only two batters, but she gave up only three hits and no walks in picking up the win.

Tennessee Wesleyan plays Central Methodist again on Wednesday at 2 p.m. ET in the championship round. Central Methodist has to win twice while Tennessee Wesleyan needs only one win to move on to the NAIA Softball World Series.

In the Hattiesburg Bracket, Bryan ran into some bad luck as it fell twice on Tuesday to end its season. Bryan opened the day with a 3-2, nine-inning loss to No. 3 Webber International (Fla.). Then, in an elimination game, Bryan fell 11-2 to No. 1 seed William Carey (Miss.).
