Milligan Races to Men's Cross Country Championship
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - Milligan placed five runners in the top eight to capture the 2024 Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) Men's Cross Country championship on Friday.
The championship meet was held at Seqouyah Park in Knoxville, Tenn.
Bryn Woodall led the Milligan attack as he outpaced the field and won the 8K race in a meet record time of 23:56.44, finishing nearly 40 seconds ahead of second-place Paul Moore of SCAD Atlanta.
Montreat's Ethan Stamey and Ryan Stade finished third and fifth, respectively. However, Milligan took places four, six, seven, and eight to finish with 26 points to win the title. Occupying those spots for Milligan were Blake Hipkiss, Winston Telford, Bryson Lewis, and Zimri Kuhn.
Montreat compiled 43 points to finish second with SCAD Atlanta taking third with 70 points. Making up the rest of the field were Reinhardt (128) in fourth, Tennessee Wesleyan (132) fifth, Truett McConnell (204) sixth, Bryan (205) seventh, Columbia (243) eighth, Union Commonwealth (261) ninth, Columbia International (262) 10th, and Pikeville (295) 11th.
Woodall is the Runner of the Year, and the Buffalo coaching staff is the Staff of the Year.
Joining Woodall on the All-AAC First Team are Moore, Stamey, Hipkiss, Stade, Telford, and Lewis. Earning All-AAC Second Team honors are Kuhn, Nathan Stamey of Montreat, Darren Klukas of Montreat, Douglas Cornfield of Milligan, William Karim of SCAD Atlanta, Mack Alas of Tennessee Wesleyan, and Sylas Chambers of Milligan.
As the top freshman finisher, Moore is the Freshman of the Year. Joining him on the All-Freshmen Team are Cornfield, William Lanser of SCAD Atlanta, Joseph Abbott of Milligan, Benjamin Pearce of Reinhardt, Dani Meisen of Tennessee Wesleyan, and Owen Zitek of SCAD Atlanta.
