Friedberg's National TItle Highlights AAC's Performance at NAIA Men's Track & Field Championships

MARION, Ind. - David Friedberg of Reinhardt repeated his national championship performance in the men's javelin in leading the Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) contingent at the 2023 NAIA Men's Outdoor Track & Field National Championship.

Friedberg, who won the 2022 men's javelin title, brought home the gold once again with a toss of 65.93 meters. Friedberg is only the sixth male athlete to win multiple national championships at the outdoor championships in AAC history and is the first to do so since 2010 when Armond Smith of Union won the 110 hurdles and was a member of the national champion 4x100 team.

In all, the AAC saw eighth earn NAIA All-American honors. Joining Friedberg are:

  • Aaron Jones, Milligan - third place in the 10,000 (30:22.15)
  • Dylan Branch, Montreat - seventh place in the 1500 (3:54.57)
  • Tevon Shuler, Tennessee Wesleyan - fourth place in the triple jump (15.13 meters)
  • Myles Lincoln, Union - fifth place in the triple (15.12 meters)
  • Deandre Leith, Columbia International - fifth in the shot put (16.75 meters)
  • Will Stockley, Milligan - sixth place in the 5000 (14:42.53)
  • Cameron Alamia, Truett McConnell - fifth place in the 200 (20.97)

In the team competition, Reinhardt led the way by placing 33rd with 10 points. Milligan was 36th with nine points, while Tennessee Wesleyan and Columbia International tied for 48th with five points. Truett McConnell and Union tied for 57th with four points, and Montreat was 70th with two points.
