Montreat Captures Thrid Consecutive Outdoor Track & Field Championship

BLACK MOUNTAIN, N.C. - Bolstered by five individual championships, Montreat raced its way to the 2023 Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) Men's Outdoor Track & Field Championship on Saturday.

The two-day event was hosted by Montreat in Black Mountain, N.C.

Montreat picked up individual wins 4x100 relay, 1500, 5000 race walk, 800, and the decathlon in amassing a total of 191 points in capturing its third consecutive outdoor championship. Milligan placed second with 169 points, while Reinhardt (116), Tennessee Wesleyan (108), and Truett McConnell (91) rounded out the top five. Making up the rest of the field are Columbia International (81), Union (30), Columbia (20), SCAD Atlanta (12), Bryan (8), Bluefield (6), and Kentucky Christian (5).

Earning the individual top honors were Deandre Leith of Columbia International as the Field Athlete of the Year, Aaron Jones of Milligan as the Track Athlete of the Year, Dario Laing of Columbia International as the Freshman of the Year, and Camren Bailey of Reinhardt as the Newcomer of the Year. The Montreat coaching staff was named the Staff of the Year.

There were four meet records set. They were:

  • Javelin – David Friedberg, Reinhardt – 65.75m
  • 4x800 Relay – Milligan (Will Stockley, Sylas Chambers, Carter Windham, Bryn Woodall) – 7:41.61
  • 10,000 – Aaron Jones, Milligan – 30:26.79
  • Triple Jump – Myles Lincoln, Union – 15.00m
