Tennessee Wesleyan Scores Men's Tennis Tournament Championship
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. - It was a fight to finish, but in the end, No. 1 seed Tennessee Weselayn collected the 2023 Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) Men's Tennis Tournament championship with a 4-1 win over second-seeded Union.
The tournament was held in Chattanooga, Tenn., at the Champions Club.
Union scored the first point of the match as it won the doubles point. Union won at No. 1 doubles 6-4, while Tennessee Wesleyan took a 6-3 win at No. 2 doubles. Victor Lopes and Santiago Lopez pulled out a 7-4 win in the tiebreak for a 7-6 win at No. 3 doubles, giving Union the doubles point.
In singles play, though, Tennessee Wesleyan picked up wins at No. 1, No. 2, No. 5, and No. 6 singles to rally for the 4-1 victory.
With the tournament win, Tennessee Wesleyan receives an automatic berth to the NAIA National Championship Tournament. Nationals is set for May 16-20 at the Mobile Tennis Center in Mobile, Ala.
