Five Records Set on Day 1 of Swimming Championships

KINGSPORT, Tenn. - Milligan grabbed the early lead at the 2024 Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) Men's and Women's Swimming and Diving Championships at the Kingsport Aquatic Center in the HMG Competition Pool.

The three-day event is being held in Kingsport, Tenn.

Of the 10 races competed on Thursday, Milligan won nine of them.

On the men's side, Milligan leads with 285 points with Union in second with 164. WVU Tech (132), Columbia (49), and Pikeville (14) round out the field.

Milligan leads the women's field with 262 points with Brenau in second with 161 and Union third at 143. Columbia (101), WVU Tech (64) and Pikeville (6) rounds out the field.

Five records were set on the day. They are:

  • Women's 200 Medley Relay - Milligan (Tyler Cates, Kaylee Williams, Gabby MacPherson, Hanne te Velthuis), 1:4716
  • Men's 200 Medley Relay - Milligan (Paxton Smith, Caleb Fry, Sergio Tudor, Stephen Gilbert), 1:31.30
  • Women's 200 IM - Emma Phillips (Union), 2:07:74
  • Women's 50 Freestyle - Hanne te Velthuis (Milligan), 23.74
  • Men's 800 Freestyle Relay - Milligan (Jayden Bearden, Jacob Miller, Andre Bazzana, Stephen Gilbert), 6:52.49
