Milligan Takes the Lead after Day 1 on Swimming Championships

KINGSPORT, Tenn. - Milligan grabbed the early lead at the 2023 Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) Men's and Women's Swimming and Diving Championships at the Kingsport Aquatic Center in the HMG Competition Pool.

The three-day event is being held in Kingsport, Tenn.

Of the 10 races competed on Thursday, Milligan won nine of them.

In the men's field, Milligan leads the way with 314 points with WVU Tech in second with 167 points. Meanwhile, Milligan amassed 302 points in the women's field, and WVU Tech is in second with 169 points.

In all, two meet records were set on the day. There were:

  • Men's 200 Medley Relay - Milligan (Reginald Brumit, Caleb Fry, Andre Bazzana, Stephen Gilbert), 1:32:03;
  • Men's 500 Free - Peter Gilbert (Milligan), 4:36.69.

The closest race of the day came in the Men's 50 Free as Guillermo Usechi Elizari of WVU Tech edged Milligan's Fry by 0.02. Usechi Elizari won the event in 21.08.

The action resumes Friday at 9 a.m. with the prelims. Friday's finals will begin at 5 p.m.

Fans are allowed to attend. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students for each day of the event. Tickets must be purchased daily. Tickets must be purchased online by clicking here.
