WALESKA, Ga. - Milligan punched its ticket to the 2023 NAIA Men's Soccer Championship final site with a 2-0 win over host William Carey (Miss.) in the NAIA Opening Round on Saturday.
Two other Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) teams had a chance to advance as well, but Tennessee Wesleyan and Union each came up short. Tennessee Wesleyan fell 2-1 to host Bethel (Ind.), while Union dropped a 2-0 decision to host Indiana Wesleyan. Tennessee Wesleyan and Union end the year with 12-5-5 and 15-3-2 overall records, respectively.
Scoreless at the half, Simen Haraldstad broke the deadlock as he knocked in the bouncing ball in the 71st minute. Kai Slinn added a goal in the 88th minute to seal the victory.
The Buffaloes take on No. 6 Mobile on Nov. 27 in the NAIA National Championship Round of 16 at the NAIA National at Stryker Soccer Complex in Wichita, Kan. It marks Milligan's second final site appearance and first since 2006.
The win extends Milligan's unbeaten streak to 18 games as they are now 17-2-3 on the season.
