AAC Men's Soccer Awards Announced

WALESKA, Ga. - The Appalachian Athletic Conference announced the 2023 Men's Soccer All-AAC Team and Awards on Tuesday.

Inaki Moreno of Milligan is the Player of the Year, while Callum Edwards of Union is the Offensive Player of the Year, the Freshman of the Year, and the Golden Boot Award winner. Sohya Yamamoto of Columbia International is the Defensive of the Year, and Patrick Sweeney of Milligan and Jonanthan Shaw are the Co-Coaches of the Year.

The awards were voted on and selected by the men's soccer coaches of the AAC.

Moreno, a forward, helped Milligan to the AAC regular-season championship as he has scored 14 goals and dished out a NAIA-leading 30 assists.

Edwards, a freshman forward, tallied a league-best 17 goals during conference play. In all, he has netted 23 goals and one assist this season in all competitions.

Yamamoto, a senior defender for Columbia International, anchored a backline that allowed 2.44 goals per match while also contributing three goals and four assists.

Sweeney guided Milligan to the AAC regular-season championship with an 10-0-3 league record. Meanwhile, Shaw led Union to the No. 2 seed with a 9-1-3 conference mark.

Fourteen players earned a spot on the All-AAC First Team with 14 making the second team. Dozens of players made the grade to earn a spot on the All-Academic Team, while 10 were named to the Champions of Character Team.
