Jay Stancil has served as a member of the AAC staff since 2010 when he was named the league's SID. In July of 2020, he was elevated to the position of Assistant Commissioner for Championships and Information, and in July of 2023, he became a full-time member of the conference staff.

In this role, Stancil oversees the league's sports communications efforts as well as maintaining oversight of the conference's awards. He will also work with the sports chairs and tournament committees to assist in managing the numerous championship events.

During his tenure with the AAC, the conference has grown from 10 full-time members to 16 and has added 12 affiliated members during that time. The AAC list of championship offerings has also grown from 13 to 24.

In addition to working for the conference, Stancil had served as Union College's Director of Sports Communications from August of 1999 through May 2014. From May 2014 to October 2015, he was the Senior Director of College Communications before returning to oversee sports communications once more as the Director of Strategic Sports Communications in October of 2015. He resigned at Union in July of 2022 when he joined the AAC on a full-time basis.

In 2010, Stancil received the Clarence "Ike" Pearson Award, which is the NAIA-SIDA's highest honor and recognizes its honoree for accomplishments and service performed over a career. He was the 34th person to earn this distinction.

In 2022, Stancil received the Warren Berg Award from College Sports Communicators (CSC, formerly known as CoSIDA), which is presented annually to a CSC College Division member who has made outstanding contributions to the field of sports information, and who by his or her activities, has brought dignity and prestige to the profession. Stancil is only the second person from the NAIA to receive this honor.

Throughout his career, Stancil has received numerous awards, earning 50 NAIA-SIDA Publication Awards including three first-place honors and one Best Cover. In addition, he placed first in the NSCAA Writing Contest in the Deadline/Game Story Division in 2005 and third place in the CoSIDA's Fred S. Stabley Sr. District IV Writing Contest in 2006 and 2007. Stancil is a three-time winner of the Willie Belcher AAC SID of the Year Award (2012, 2019, and 2020).

Over the years, Stancil has served as the media coordinator for numerous postseason tournaments, including the 2001 NAIA Region XI men's soccer tournament, the 2002, 2003 and 2009 AAC women's soccer tournaments, the 2002 NAIA Region XII women's soccer tournament, the 2007 NAIA Super-Central Super Regional baseball tournament and the NAIA National Championship Opening Round in Kingsport, Tenn., from 2011-22. Stancil served as the media coordinator of several neutral site conference tournaments for the sports of women's volleyball (2009-present), men's and women's basketball (2013-present), softball (2016-present), and baseball (2007-present). He also served as a member of the gameday staff for the 2006, 2007, 2013, 2021, and 2022 NAIA Football National Championship game, on the championship staff for the 2016 and 2017 NAIA Indoor Track & Field Championship meets, and as the official statistician for the 2023 NAIA Softball World Series. In March of 2007, Stancil served as a member of the media relations crew for the first and second round games of the NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Championship tournament in Lexington, Ky.

Stancil is a member of the NAIA-SIDA - the NAIA's Sports Information Directors Association, and CSC. For six years, he served on the NAIA-SIDA Publications Contest Committee. Stancil also served on the CSC Publications Contest Committee for three years and has served on the CSC Academic All-America Committee since 2007-19. From 2010-16, he began serving on the CSC New Media/Technology Committee. Stancil currently serves on the Special Awards and Advocacy committees.

In addition to serving at Union, Stancil was the NAIA Region XII Information Director from 2005-08 and was elected twice as an At-Large Representative on the NAIA-SIDA Board of Directors, spending four years in the capacity. He was served as the First Vice President of the NAIA-SIDA Board from 2009-11, President of NAIA-SIDA from 2011-14 and the NAIA-SIDA Past President from 2014-17. In June of 2023, he was elected to serve a one-year team for the NAIA-SIDA Board. Stancil also served as a member of CoSIDA's College Division Management Council from 2008-14 and from 2016-19. From 2016-19, he served as a College Division At-Large Representative on the CSC Board of Directors.

Prior to coming Union, Stancil spent five years as a sports editor/reporter at two southeastern Kentucky newspapers. In 1994, he began his professional career as a sports reporter for the Corbin Times-Tribune in Corbin, Ky., and was named the newspaper's sports editor in the fall of 1995. In March 1997, Stancil was hired as the sports editor at the London-Laurel News Journal in London, Ky., serving there until the summer of 1999. While at the News Journal, Stancil won eight Kentucky Press Association awards, including first place for Best Sports Column.

A 1994 graduate of Carson-Newman College in Jefferson City, Tenn., Stancil received his B.A. in communication arts with emphases in broadcasting, journalism and public relations with a minor in business management.

Stancil is married, and he and his wife, Genople, have two children - a son, Jayson, and a daughter, Haylee. The Stancils are active members of Poplar Grove Baptist Church in Corbin, Ky.
