Scott Simmons oversaw one of the more dominant runs in AAC men's cross country history, leading Virginia Intermont College to the NAIA National Championship in 2004, 2005, and 2006.
Simmons captured four NAIA Coach of the Year honors while at Virginia Intermont, earning three in men's cross country (2004, 2005, and 2006) and one in men's indoor track & field (2006). In addition to the three national titles, Virginia Intermont collected two national runner-up finishes (2005 and 2006) in indoor track & field and one in outdoor track & field (2005) under Simmons' tutelage.
During his short tenure at Virginia Intermont, Simmons saw a total of 95 NAIA All-Americans (12 in men's cross country, 49 in men's indoor track & field, 22 in men's outdoor track & field, 1 in women's cross country, 7 in women's indoor track & field, and 4 in women's outdoor track & field). Simmons also coached a total of 25 NAIA Individual National Champions (1 in men's cross country, 12 in men's indoor track & field, 1 in women's indoor track & field, and 11 in men's outdoor track & field) and 2 Most Outstanding Performers at the NAIA Men's Outdoor Track & Field Meet.
The team national titles were the first for any team in any sport in AAC history.
Simmons led Virginia Intermont to the 2005 and 2007 AAC Men's Outdoor Track & Field championships.
