David Cheromei is the most decorated student-athlete in Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) history, and it isn't even close.
A native of Eldoret, Kenya, Cheromei is a 12-time NAIA All-American and a 10-time NAIA Individual National Champion. He was a key member of the Virginia Intermont men's cross country team, which won the NAIA National Championship in 2004, 2005, and 2006. In 2006, Cheromei was the NAIA Men's Cross Country individual champion. The team national titles were the first for any team in any sport in AAC history.
At the 2006 and 2007 NAIA Men's Outdoor Track & Field National Championship meets, Cheromei was named the Outstanding Performer after winning the 5000 and 3000 Steeplechase at both meets. His time of 8:43.28 in the 3000 Steeplechase in 2006 ranks as the third-fastest time in the event in NAIA Championship Meet history.

- Men's Cross Country (2006)
- Men's Indoor Track & Field: 5000 (2005), 3000 (2006, 2007), and Distance Medley Relay (2006)
- Men's Outdoor Track & Field: 3000 Steeplechase (2005, 2006, 2007), 5000 (2006, 2007)
Since graduating from Virginia Intermont, Cheromei has coached at a number of colleges including serving as the head coach for Emory & Henry College. He also is the founder of Grace of God's Children Project.
