Four Meet Records Fall on Day 1 of Indoor Championships

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - A total of four meet records fell on the first day of the 2023 Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) Men's and Women's Indoor Track & Field Championships.

The two-day event is being held at the JDL Fast Track in Winston-Salem, N.C.

Two men's records and two women's records were set, and coincidentally, the records fell in the same events - the 1000 and triple jump.

Paige Manney of Tennessee Wesleyan bested the mark in the women's triple jump by over a meter as he posted a leap of 12.80 meters. In the men's triple jump, Dustin Blevins improved upon the mark he set last year as he won the event with a distance of 15.09 meters.

The field in both the men's and women's 1000 was fast as multiple runners bested the previous record time in the event. In the women's 1000, the top three finishers all ran a record time, but it was Milligan's Ellen Mary Kearney to cross the line first in 2:54.08. The top five finishers in the men's 1000 were all under the previous record time. Yet, it was Milligan's Bryn Woodall who set the new mark with a time of 2:27.31. Woodall's time is also the fastest time by a collegiate runner at the JDL Fast Track.

  • Women's 60 - Trinity Gregory, CIU - 7.77
  • Women's 400 - Grace Wright, Columbia - 1:02.19
  • Women's 5000 - Alyssa Bearzi, Milligan - 17:55.44
  • Women's DMR - Montreat (Catherine Slack, Jasmine Hernandez, Yessina Castellanos, Mahaley Cronk) - 12:55.43
  • Women's Weight Throw - Dazanni Hinton, CIU - 16.76 meters
  • Men's 60 - RJ Terry, Montreat - 6.87
  • Men's 400 - Skylan Stephens, Milligan - 50.18
  • Men's 5000 - Aaron Jones, Milligan - 14:48.38
  • Men's DMR - Reinhardt (Logan Ray, Camren Bailey, Braden Ray, Tom Vincent) - 10:31.34
  • Men's Weight Throw - Andrew Paolozzi, Reinhardt - 16.51 meters

In the team competitions, Milligan and Montreat are tied for the men's lead as both have 76 points. Milligan leads the women's title chase with 62 points, while Montreat is second with 45.
