4 Records Set on Day 2 of Swimming Championships

KINGSPORT, Tenn. - Three records were set and another was tied on the second day of the 2023 Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) Men's and Women's Swimming and Diving Championships at the Kingsport Aquatic Center in the HMG Competition Pool.

The three-day event is being held in Kingsport, Tenn.

Milligan continues to lead both the men's and women's title chases. In the men's competition, Milligan has 739 points with WVU Tech in second with 352. Milligan leads the women's field with 700 points, while WVU Tech is in second with 380 points.

Of the 14 races competed on Friday, Milligan won 12 of them.

Milligan tied the record in the Men's 200 Free Relay, posting a time of 1:24.94. That mark was first set by St. Andrews on Feb. 10, 2017. Swimming for Milligan in the race were Stephen Gilbert, Andre Bazzana, Zac Nelson, and Caleb Fry.

The other three records were were all in the women's events. There were:

  • Women's 100 Fly - Gabby MacPherson (Milligan), 57.68;
  • Women's 100 Breast - Kaylee Williams (Milligan), 1:04.82;
  • Women's 400 Medley Relay - Milligan (Rachel Connell, Kaylee Williams, Gabby MacPherson, Samantha van Vuure), 3:57.64.

  • Women's 200 Free Relay - Milligan (Liz Mahan, Gabby MacPherson, Tyler Cates, Mary Grace Bitting), 1:39.73;
  • Women's 400 IM - Samantha Pepevnick (WVU Tech), 4:38.42;
  • Men's 400 IM - Peter Gilbert (Milligan), 4:08.08;
  • Men's 100 Fly - Reginald Brumit (Milligan), 50.23;
  • Women's 200 Free - Riley Renaud (Milligan), 1:56.23;
  • Men's 200 Free - Andre Bazzana (Milligan), 1:42.08;
  • Men's 100 Breast - Yurri Prokopchuk (Point), 56.05;
  • Women's 100 Back - Tyler Cates (Milligan), 58.33;
  • Men's 100 Back - Reginald Brumit (Milligan), 52.23;
  • Men's 400 Medley - Milligan (Reginald Brumit, Ben Hawkins, Stephen Gilbert, Andre Bazzana), 3:25.70.

The action resumes Saturday at 9 a.m. with the prelims. Saturday's finals will begin at 4 p.m.
